Four
assemblies are utilized in this unique application to act as structural
elements to hold opposing building side walls together. These assemblies
are comprised of four large pipes maintained in their geometric alignment
by the push and pull of the flexible cabling that connects them.
Tensegrity
The tensegrity
pattern results when the continuous pull forces are balanced by the
discontinuous push forces. The exacting geometry of the units was achieved
with custom machined inserts placed inside the pipes at the connection
points.
